The Durand is simple and easy to use… if used correctly. Take a moment to see how it’s done.
- Screw the helix into the center of the cork until it rests against the top of the cork (or bottle). Watch the video for step 1.
- Insert with the cutting edges (blades) on both sides of the screwed-in helix. First insert the “long” and then the “short” cutting edge (blade) between the cork and the bottle. Watch the video for step 2.
- Press the cutting edges down between the cork and the bottle, using the cutting edge holder (handle) to press down each side in turn. Continue this rocking motion until the bottom of the handle rests against the top of the Helix handle (Stabilizer bar). Watch the video for step 3.
- Hold the bottle firmly. With the other hand, grasp the helix handle (Handle) and the cutter holder (Stabilzer bar) together and rotate them, then slowly pull them upward and continue rotating to remove the cork. Watch the video for step 4.
Despite the stability and support provided by the Durand, the oldest and most fragile corks can benefit from a little extra care. Use your fingers on the cork near the neck of the bottle to maintain the cork in the later stages of removal.
